A New Lens Through Film

Vanessa Anthony-Stevens has been working in partnership with the 科达伦部落 for several years to create a shift in culture around education.

“The real world — that’s where learning takes place,” said Ryanne Pilgeram, an associate professor of 社会学 在 College of Letters, 艺术 and Social Sciences. “People seem really one-dimensional when you read about them. “We’re really focusing on changing U of I students. When you’ve had that experience, it means you’re going to work with children with a different lens,Pilgeram说.

A lifetime relationship

Sienna Reuben是CEHHS课程和教育项目的研究生，也是CEHHS的成员 Indigenous Knowledge for Effective Education Program, said the class reminded her why she wants to be a teacher.

The course has had a big impact on the elementary students as well, 凯西·阿尔宾说, a teacher at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal School..
