During a program based in London, seniors and graduate students in the 体系结构 and 室内建筑 & 设计 programs have easy access to experience the cities and their environments as design laboratories. Through interdisciplinary design and research activities students engage in understanding multi-layered sustainable and regenerative approaches in the continuous transformation of buildings and cities.

Students conduct research visiting green buildings and sites, renowned cultural attractions, and architecture and engineering firms at the forefront of design and research in the built environment. Past architecture firms have included Waugh Thistleton Architects, 分组, 天玺工作室, and Allford Hall Monaghan Morris.

Scheduled field trips to nearby exemplary cities contribute to expanding this exploration. Past trips have included visits to Cambridge, Oxford, York, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, and Suffolk. Most weekends allow free time for exploring London and nearby British and European destinations.

The capstone project is a design charette drawing on research done during the required preparatory seminar (spring) and coursework while abroad during the summer. 

The summer course is offered as a graduate studio or graduate elective.

*The United Kingdom program was created by Distinguished Professor Emeritus Bruce Haglund in 2006 and has been happening since then every other year during the summer.
